Beware the Finglomb
Article Abstract:
A shakeout in the financial service industry appears on the horizon. The financial service sector includes all areas of credit. The number of firms in the field runs over 40,000. Many new services are emerging and mergers are becoming rampant to build bigger and more extensive companies. There is no evidence though, at this point, that there will be sufficient growth in market demand to support all the capacity. Battles for market share are expected to lead to some fall-out. Too much diversification in the industry is expected to lead to problems, as it has so often in non-financial service businesses. More attention needs to be paid to the services corporate cultures to present a focused view.

Modern Financial Theory, Corporate Strategy, and Public Policy
Article Abstract:
The understanding and application of modern financial theory can be strengthened through interdisciplinary activity. Research isolationism has restricted theory use. Results from modern financial theory should be incorporated into both corporate strategy and public policy literature. An analysis of the three major assertions of modern financial theory is presented. These assertions concern risk management, information disclosure and efficient markets. Interaction between financial researchers and strategic management researchers would benifit both areas.

Corporate governance: What can we learn from public governance
Article Abstract:
An argument is presented that corporate governance can get a lot from realigning managers on compensation with the practice present in the public sector-fixed compensation and not dependent on pay-for-performance. It is strongly felt that improvement in corporate governance can be achieved by relying on institutionalized competition in important areas of the firm.
