Group rethinks ratings on Year 2000 readiness
Article Abstract:
Fearing capital flight, the Global 2000 Coordinating Group is reconsidering its plan to release ratings on how each country is handling the Y2K problem. The coordinating group, which includes 230 institutions from 46 countries, had planned to release its ratings in early Feburary. However, after intial praise from computer consultants, critics began to attack the plan, warning that it would create more problems then it would solve. Federal regulators and international banking institutions voiced concern that a bad rating would prompt capital flight from developing economies, especially from Latin America. Some of the members in the coordinating group are still pushing for the publication of the data. A Final decesion is still pending.

Rare for an Internet company, Yahoo reports actual earnings. Not that such things matter
Article Abstract:
Yahoo Inc. reported 4th quarter earnings of $25.04 million and a 2-for-1 stock split. This may be one of the few Internet companies that is actually making money at long last. But analysts still advise caution because of the volatility associated with new technology. Analysts also feel that the Santa Clara, Calif.-based Internet gateway is a well managed company.
