Ian Moir, chief executive of Country Road, an Australian company that designs and makes cotton shirts, feels that marketing can play a pivotal role in increasing the company's sales and hence, has increased the expenditures on marketing. The company, which suffered losses after entering the United States market, is slowly returning to profitability by changing the positioning and structure of the firm with better researched pricing, improvements in production cycle times and more precise distribution.

Australia has a giant food service industry, with an estimated 80,000 food service outlets turning over about $24 billion annually, and the food service outlets don't desire a separate visit from a representative of each product or brand. Hence manufacturers are turning to sales agencies, such as Food Service Associates, with representatives selling a suite of brands in a complete menu to food buyers.
