Leaders of industrialized nations met in a Group of Seven conference Jul 7 to 9, 1993, in Tokyo, Japan. They made progress on international trade agreements for the GATT treaty and other international trade issues. Aid to Russia and the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina were also discussed.

Peru, Ecuador sign truce; border dispute unresolved

Peru and Ecuador signed a peace treaty on Feb 17, 1995, ending a three week battle over disputed territory that began Jan 26, 1995. The area in contention is a 48-mile section of the Cordillera del Condor mountains, which had been ceded to Peru under the Rio Protocol in 1960.
