Microsoft faces new allegations from Europe
Article Abstract:
The European Union announced that it plans to expand its investigation of Microsoft's practices of bundling its own MediaPlayer in its Windows operating systems, existing and new. Regulators say the investigation will not be influenced by any outcome from the U.S. trial that will resume in September under judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.

Microsoft competitors belatedly seek to derail its settlement with Justice
Article Abstract:
A law firmed has filed a brief with the US District Court in Washington, D.C., on behalf of unnamed competitors, alleging the US Dept of Justice's antitrust settlement reached in Jul 1994 has done nothing to remedy Microsoft's monopolistic practices. The unnamed competitors fear retaliation if their names are revealed. The brief is unusual because it comes after the customary 60-day period for public comments following a settlement. Experts believe the consent decree will be approved as a matter of course. US District Court Judge Stanley Sporkin established an opportunity for additional comments when he asked Microsoft and Justice Dept lawyers for additional information about the settlement during hearings in Sep and Nov 1994. A final hearing is scheduled for Jan 20, 1995. The Federal Trade Commission began its investigation of Microsoft in 1990. The investigation was later taken over by the Justice Dept.
