Northwest Air commuter affiliates say they cannot comply with order to fly
Article Abstract:
Northwest Airlines' two commuter affiliates claim that they cannot comply with a federal order to restart service to small communities that have lost air service as a result of a pilots' strike at Northwest. On September 2, 1998, the Transportation Department ordered Mesaba Airlines and Express Airlines I to begin flights to several small communities. These communities were bereft of any air service due to the stoppage of Northwest service.

America West rejects takeover offer by United
Article Abstract:
Rumor has it that America West received an all-cash bid to be acquired by United Airlines that it has declined. What America West has stated is that it thinks it can compete well enough on its own. Speculation on regulatory concerns are thought to have entered into the decision to go it alone, in addition to objection from a controlling shareholder.
