The Goat's Notes - Eight Things Your Computer Won't Do
Article Abstract:
In this age of technological giddiness it is important to remember the limitations of computers. First, the computer will not save an organization money. If there is any doubt about this, simply look at how much the budget rises each year. Second, if an organization is poorly managed, a computer will merely make it poorly managed at a faster rate. Third, not every business decision is based upon objective criteria; subjective evaluation, which a computer cannot yet perform, is often the key to success. This column is continued in the June (1984) NCR Monthly.

Eight Things Your Computer Won't Do
Article Abstract:
This concludes the paper entitled, Eight Things Your Computer Won't Do. Item four is your computer won't run itself. Number five-- your computer won't always be right. In addition your computer won't protect itself, meet all its own needs or become obsolete. The bottom line in the discussion is, insofar as information management is concerned, you are the bottom line, not your computer.

The Goat's Notes
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the compatibility between RM-COBOL and IMOS-V COBOL are discussed. The features contained in RM-COBOL that are not found in IMOS-V COBOL, and vice versa, are listed. The most serious compatibility problem, however, lies with the inconsistency of data types. A chart illustrating this point is provided.
