The US and the UN agreed to replace US troops in Somalia with a UN peace-keeping force. The US, nearly finished with its goal of providing humanitarian aid, wanted to pull troops out of Somalia before they became involved in clan warfare.

Troops' role in Somalia deaths probed

Two Somalis were killed by Canadian peacekeeping troops in Mar 1993, and an investigation by the Dept of National Defense is underway. An investigation into the conduct of all Canadian troops in Somalia is also being undertaken.
