Vranitzky maintains electoral edge

Vranitzky's Social Democratic Party won 38.3% of the vote in Austria's Dec 17, 1995, election. The People's Party came in second with 34.9%, and The Freedom Party won 22%. Vranitzky's is expected to merge the two top parties to form a ruling coalition. Economic issues dominated the campaign.

Arafat registers sweeping electoral victory as Palestinian voters affirm peace process
Article Abstract:
Yasir Arafat was elected with 88.1% of the vote to lead the Palestinian National Authority as Palestine furthers its efforts to gain independence from Israel. The 88 seats of the legislative council were also filled. Actions made in protest of the peace and elections are described.

Article Abstract:
The Electoral College voted on Dec 14, 1992, for their choices for president and vice president. The votes were made in each state's capital and the District of Columbia. Congress would be notified of the results when it convened in Jan 1993.
