Will Golden Books' next chapter be its sale?
Article Abstract:
The children's books publisher, Golden Books Family Entertainment Inc., which has been beset by management problems and financial losses in recent years, has begun searching for an acquisition partner. The company had been attempting to branch out into television program production under the direction of Chairman and CEO Richard Snyder. But the death of Shari Lewis, who was the centerpiece of planned TV shows and other products, has created uncertainty at the company. A $30.6 million second quarter net loss was almost triple the company's loss in same quarter for the previous year.

In the age of the Web, a book chain flounders
Article Abstract:
Investors don't care that the Borders Book Stores still have above-average service, or music and videos and coffee bars, or that they are America's most profitable bookseller, they want their investment to keep pace on the Internet, too. The company missed a step when it let Amazon.com get a three-year head-start, leaving Borders.com in a distant third place in sales last year. But the company plans to change that and is also revitalizing its superstores with new paint and new signs.

Article Abstract:
N2K Inc. announced that it will assume a one-time charge as a result of staff reductions and restructuring at its N2K Encoded Music label. The label was unsuccessful in trying to attract music lovers with its special compact disks. These disks featured lyrics and concert footage spots. N2K Encoded Music was started in 1996.
