AGRI INFORMATION CHANNEL LAUNCHED IN KARNATAKA
Article Abstract:
Karnataka News Net, an Internet news services provider has launched an agro information channel on the Internet in the regional language, Kannada. The channel has been set up in association with the Kannada Development Authority and Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board. It will cater to the information needs of farmers in the state. The channel will be linked to all agricultural produce marketing committees (APMCs) in the state and on-line information on prices of various commodities will be provided through the network. The channel will offer information on various crops, advances in technology and research and practical aspects of various agro-related activities. The service will be extended to over 40 major APMCs by the end of June 1998. (vv)

UTV, TSN TO JOINTLY LAUNCH INTERACTIVE SERVICES IN JUNE
Article Abstract:
United Television (UTV) and Tele Shopping Network (TSN), both part of the Unilazer group, have decided to jointly launch a range of interactive services in June 1999. The services will be on the Internet as well as through multimedia networks. The Unilazer group has spent about Rs35 crore in developing the services and expects to invest another Rs5 crore to promote the project. It will concentrate on establishing online shopping and will initially introduce 75 to 100 products. TSN currently has about 11 hours of promotional programming across all channels and has built a client base of five lakh shoppers over the last three years. UTV has a large library of television programmes and has recently started satellite programming. (khr)

BHARTI BT INTERNET PLANS TO LAUNCH SERVICES IN MARCH
Article Abstract:
Bharti BT Internet, a joint venture between Bharti Telecom and British Telecom, is scheduled to introduce its Internet services by March 1999. The company has planned an initial investment of Rs50 crore to provide Internet services and hopes to acquire 20,000 subscribers in the first year of operations. The company will initially launch Internet services in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and later in other cities. (khr)
