AUSTRIA: SUDDEUTSCHE TO BUY WIRTSCHAFTSVERLAG?

Wirtschaftsverlag, a publishing company controlled by the Austrian People's Party OVP, is close to be taken over by Suddeutsche Zeitung, the publisher of the big German daily. With its subsidiaries ERB and Bastei-Verlag and about 40 titles, Wirtschaftsverlag is Austria's leading publisher of periodicals. With 130 staff, it generates an annual turnover of Sch 270mn. Suddeutsche Zeitung, which owns 49% of the Austrian national daily Der Standard, reportedly will take a majority stake in Wirtschaftsverlag.

AUSTRIA: STORCK BUYS NESTLE CONFECTIONERY UNIT
Article Abstract:
The German Berlin-based sugar and chocolate products manufacturer Storck GmbH is buying the Englhofer division of Nestle Osterreich with effect from 1 July 2000. Englhofer's confectionery brands include Firn and Wiener Zuckerl. Storck has been represented in Austria since 1962 through a branch in Salzburg.
