TVS COMPANIES BUCK THE TREND
Article Abstract:
Companies of the TVS group have shown profitable operations in 1997-98 at a time when Indian corporates are witnessing divestments, closures, sickness and mergers due to an economic slowdown. Two companies of the group - Sundram Fasteners and TVS Suzuki have declared a 50 percent dividend each while Sundaram Finance and Impal each declared 55 percent and India Nippon declared a dividend of 60 percent in 1997-98. The group posted a turnover of Rs5500 crore in 1997-98 with manufacturing companies accounting for Rs3000 crore, vehicle and auto parts trading Rs1360 crore and the rest coming from finance and other operations. None of the group companies have laid-off personnel or resorted to shut-downs and closures so far. The companies have also not sold any business or divested stakes and neither have they defaulted on payments of loan, interest, dues and deposits. (khr)
