Available output
Article Abstract:
CEZ (Prague, Czech Republic), power firm, decreased its total available output by 99 MW to 10,900 MW in 1998 compared to 1997. The drop was caused by putting aside turbo-generators at the power stations Hodonin and Tisova, both in the Czech Republic, and the commissioning of a wind-power plant farm. The share of outputs at CEZ's environment-friendly sources increased to 93% as of 31 December 1998 compared to the former 72%. The remaining 7% of the firm's non-desulphurised outputs, 750 MW, were put aside definitively as of 01 January 1999. About 85% of the total electric power production at CEZ's sources was represented by environment-friendly production in 1998 compared to 65% in 1997. About 28% of CEZ's total electric power production was represented by nuclear power stations, 3% by hydro-electric power plants and 54% by desulphurised coal power stations in 1998.

Demand for electric power in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: Demand for electric power decreased by 967 GWh, 1.8%, to 52,196 GWh in 1998 compared to 1997. The consumption of large-scale consumers decreased by 208 GWh, 0.9%, during the same period. The consumption of small-scale consumers decreased by 848 GWh, 3.8%, in 1998 compared to 1997. The main reasons for the drop were an increase in the value-added tax and the growth of the prices of electric power for households.
