BNP is seen as better buy than SocGen
Article Abstract:
Banque Nationale de Paris is getting better reviews from banking analysts than Societe Generale because it emphasizes retail banking over merchant and international banking. Such a strategy cuts risk and helps minimize the intrusion of global economic problems. Asset management and investment and corporate banking were 52% of Societe Generale's business versus 38% of Banque Nationale de Paris. It is expected that BNP will seek some sort of alliance with Credit Lyonnais once that bank is privatized.
