Marconi gets a $44 million order from Telepar
Article Abstract:
Marconi Communications has obtained a $44 million order from Brazil's state telecommunications firm, Telepar. The order involves synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH), transmission equipment and a network management system. Telepar will use the new orders to provide public and private phone services, including mobile-phone connections in the Brazilian state of Parana. Marconi has been also asked by Telepar to supply the latter with high-speed digital SDH network to enable it to offer long-distance communications services.

Elektrim unit wins Warsaw phone-service concession
Article Abstract:
A division of Elektrim SA, El-Net, won the concession to provide telephone service to the city of Warsaw, a lucrative win over competitor Telekomunikacja Polska SA. El-Net will be required to connect 340,000 subscribers by 2003 in addition to paying the license fee of $300 million coming due at the same time.
