Changing gear: British building societies
Article Abstract:
The UK's thrift industry is experiencing financial difficulty in 1992, despite the fact that most building societies are well-capitalized. Many depositors removed savings from building society accounts to buy National Savings bonds. Declining mortgage demand and reduced inflation are also harming the industry.
