Let's keep it clean
Article Abstract:
There has been opposition to proposals to regulate organic farming in the US on the grounds that they are too lax. The proposals allow some usage of drugs and genetically modified organisms, and cramped facilities for livestock. Initial proposals for a national organic farming policy issued in 1997 were prefaced with praise from agribusiness trade organizations. There have been 257,000 letter of complaint, and opponents of the proposals argue that the government has been under pressure from chemical and drug companies and industrial farmers.

Brain drain
Article Abstract:
Poland has a strong scientific community, but there is concern that not enough is being invested in science. Spending on science for Poland as a whole is less than that spent by a medium-sized US university. Patenting inventions is also expensive, so scientists find it difficult to benefit from their work, and pay is low for Polish scientists. Numbers of research scientists are falling. More foreign investment and a patents office would help Polish scientists, and some, limited, progress is being made.
