DENMARK: PRICE HINDERS INTEREST FOR BROADBAND
Article Abstract:
It is no longer access that is the biggest hindrance for Danish consumers barrier to broadband. It is instead factors such as price, insecurity and dearth of content which has led to poor interest. This conclusion has been shown by the government's strategy review on the future of broadband. Research minister, Birte Weiss (s), who participated in the study, is hopeful that prices will sink following the opening of Tele Danmark's (TDC) access network to competition. Weiss shall impose measures to ensure an increase on information on security. In August the Culture and Education Ministry will present plans for how content can be developed with regards to e-learning and culture. The Dansk Trade & Service organisation and the Left Party's IT spokesperson, Kristian Jensen, have criticised the proposal and argue that the measures are not enough. Instead the government should present a broadband settlement similar to the home computer settlement that was recently signed.

Denmark: Broadband market expected to boom
Article Abstract:
The Danish broadband market is expected to boom as a result of the new government's IT action plan. Turnover in the market this year is more than DKr0.5bn. Telia Stofa expects the government's initiative to phase out slower technologies such as ISDN. Analysis company IDC expects the turnover in the broadband market to grow to DKr3.2bn (US$385mn) by 2005. According to IDC, this increase would take place even without the help from the government's action plan.
