Dassault seeks European venture for Atlantic 3
Article Abstract:
Dassault Aviation is seeking European partners for its Atlantic 3 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) to promote it to the aircraft requirements of Italy and Germany. In addition, Dassault is presenting the Atlantic 3 as an upgrade of the French Navy's Atlantique 2 fleet. The firm reported in April that it had entered into partnerships with DaimlerChrysler, Alenia and other manufacturers to develop an aircraft that would meet the MPA requirements of Italy and Germany and the development of the Atlantique 2 to Atlantique 3.

Mission pods ordered for Aeronavale
Article Abstract:
Thales, formerly Thomson-CSF, has been awarded two major contracts by the Delegation General pour l'Armament, the French procurement agency. The larger contract is valued at $336 million, which entails the developmenta nd production of a new generation airborne electro-optical reconnaissance pod for use by the Rafale-M. The smaller contract, valued at $46 million, is for 15 damocles multifunction laser designator pods for use by the Aeronavale's Super Etendard Modernise aircraft.

France launches search for next-generation satellites
Article Abstract:
Alcatel Space and Matra Marconi Space are vying for France's Syracuse III military satellite communications contract. The companies are currently conducting project definition studies which should result in two firm, fixed price bids by the end of 1999. The winning contractor, to be announced in the first quarter the following year, will develop and produce a single satellite initially. The satellite will be launched into orbit in 2003.
