Doubts on Internet alliance
Article Abstract:
The impending consolidation between Microsoft Corp and Hong Kong Telecommunications will allow Hong Kong consumers to view movies on their computers, conduct videoconferencing or download a Microsoft software in just a single system. The proposed strategic alliance increased the stock price of Hong Kong Telecom by 14% and raised the company's market capitalization by $2.7 billion. However, analysts were downplaying the alliance on concerns regarding an indefinite agreement on the amount of investment, rates for the services and division of the resulting revenue.

China Everbright Holdings prepares for buying spree
Article Abstract:
China Everbright Holdings Co has acquired a 7.7% stake in Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd as it launches a move to invest its money by acquiring passive shares in profitable businesses. The company earlier acquired a 5.5% stake in a property venture and the move is seen to reflect the management strategy of most red-chip companies where they prefer to maintain passive investments in businesses. China Everbright is also expected to sell off some of its shares in banking and the generated money is to be funnelled into securities.
