Dutch uncle; writer delights in debunking myths in his controversial novels
Article Abstract:
Sri Lankan writer Carl Muller has won awards and hit bestseller lists with his chronicles of Dutch Burghers in the island-state, and hopes for more success with a retelling, and debunking, of the Sanskrit epic The Mahavamsa. His Von Bloss trilogy features authentic, energetic characters that revived interest in the community but also drew scorn from more upscale Burghers, who prefer to ignore their less successful brethren. Muller himself is matter-of- fact about approval and obloquy alike, simply desiring more sales.

Article Abstract:

But portrayals in Australian movies even during the 80s continue to confirm cultural and social stereotypes.
