EU MAY BAN INDIAN GROUNDNUT
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) has threatened to ban edible groundnut imports from India due to the high level of aflatoxin content at 15 parts per billion (ppb) against the permitted 10 ppb. The Government of India has been asked to introduce new standards and procedures for production, packaging and pre-shipment inspection of edible peanuts conforming to the EU standards. Following the EU warning, groundnut consignments were tested at the ports of Spain, Greece and Italy for high aflatoxin content. (gsh)
