AUSTRIA: RED BULL GOING STRONG
Article Abstract:
Austrian Salzburg-based Red Bull is to launch its energy drink in Israel, Australia, the US and South America and in 2001 also in Arab countries and North Africa. The drink is being offered in all European countries except Denmark and France. Red Bull, which employs 765 staff, has outsourced production to the fruit juice maker Rauch in Vorarlberg in western Austria and logistics to Quehenberger of Salzburg. Rauch is considering to set up a production plant for Red Bull in Switzerland. The company might thus avoid being affected by the import duty dispute between the European Union and the US. Red Bull expects to sell 1.3bn cans and other packaging units of the energy drink in 2001, up from just under 1bn units in 2000. Turnover is forecast to rise to Sch 14bn in 2001 from Sch 11bn and Sch 7.1bn in 1999.
