The United States economy is expected to slow to 3.5 percent growth for the year, rather than the four percent previously predicted, in the face of Hurricane Katrina. Global petroleum reserves were tapped in the wake of one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the United States.

U.S. industrial-output data suggest manufacturing rebound

Industrial productivity in the U.S. increased in the July 2003 period. Productivity rose 0.5% in the month, the largest increase since January.
