FARMING ON FAMILIARITY
Article Abstract:
Eicher Tractors, a part of Eicher Ltd, has started contacting farmers to come out with a more realistic forecasting model. It has acquired documented guarantees of sales from its dealers and has realised that it must strategise at the local and not the national level. The company has been collecting information on product development, customer and market specifications, depending on the soil and crop. It has set up thirty regional offices across the country and has launched customer camps and exchange melas. It has launched tractors in the 35-38 hp range and tied-up with Valtra Inc of Finland for tractors with 60 hp and above. It has also introduced Ecotractor, a 25 hp model priced at Rs1.5 lakh. The company sold 6000 tractors in the 31-40 hp range during the first quarter of 1998-99. (khr)

FIAT PUTS OFF PALIO LAUNCH
Article Abstract:
The Italian car manufacturer, Fiat Auto (Fiat), will postpone the launch of its world car Palio to the end of 1999. The car was expected to be launched in early 1999. The Palio launch is delayed because of the competitive pricing of Indica by Telco, which was launched recently. Moreover, both Palio and Indica were designed by the same Italian design house IDEA. However, Fiat will launch its three-box version of the Palio, namely Siena, during January 1999. Siena and Palio have six models sharing the same platform. Fiat will announce the pricing of Siena in later part of January 1999. The car is available in both petrol and diesel versions. (um)
