FMC enter ramp-tracking alliance
Article Abstract:
FMC Airport Systems has been appointed an authorized distributor of WhereNet's Real Time Locating System for locating and tracking equipment at airports. The WhereNet system comes with battery-powered wireless tags that are attached to the equipment. Each tag sends signals to fixed- position receivers, allowing for the location of the tag with an accuracy of 3 meters. PC displays then show the position of the equipment, and the information may also be available through the Internet.

Wireless ramp improves productivity
Article Abstract:
Hewlett-Packard and Hong Kong Airport Services has launched a joint initiative that has led to the development of a wireless ramp management system that is currently used at Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok. Information about ground handling operations is relayed between control rooms and workers on the ramp using wireless terminals. Various modules are available, including ramp management ,human resources, finance and accounting, to make up an integrated management system.

Netherlands-based InterSystems has entered into a joint development with Motorola Market Solutions to create a new system called RapidAWIS. The wireless system has been added to InterSystems' airport information management portfolio. The system enables personnel to access the wired network database in real time using mobile wireless terminals. Intersystems is marketing the system as part of its RapidAIMS airport information management solution package.
