FRANCE: DISTRICALL AMBITIONS WITH PRE-PAYMENT CARDS
Article Abstract:
Districall targets the leadership with a 15-20% of the market of pre-payment telephone cards in France, with 3,500 vending machines installed. The company plans to operate between 3 and 6,000 such machines before the end of 2000. It took six months to Districall to open more than 1,000 machines including 600 units in the Paris area. The company installs its equipment in the premises of super and hypermarkets, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. Because of the theft risk, standard players in the business limit their distribution scope to post offices, bookshops, service stations and tobacconist's shops, according to Districall, which also supplies the telephone cards. With this concept imported from the US, Districall installs and maintains the equipment, feeds it with pre-payment cards, and handles the money collection in return for a 15% commission.
