First and second order characterizations of pseudolinear functions

Article Abstract:

A means of extending the characterization of pseudolinearity to differentiable functions using first order information is developed. The proof shows that second order characterization of pseudolinear functions is superfluous since the first order is sufficient and complete. Such an extension of pseudolinearity, characterized by a special normalized gradient property, provides for increased optimization capability for linear functions subject to linear constraints.

A two-phase shortest path algorithm for networks with node coordinates

Article Abstract:

A composite label-setting and label-correcting algorithm has been developed for determining the shortest path between a source and a single link in a network. The algorithm uses the node elimination rule in conjunction with a heuristic solution to find optimal solutions to shortest path problems. It is capable of reducing the computation time involved in the solution of such problems by as much as 60%.

A study dealing with the development of a multicriteria optimization procedure and its application to emulsion polymerization processes for which several criteria must be optimized simultaneously is conducted. The aim is to find a nondominated zone in which a decision maker will be able to choose the best solution.
