Developing a taste for acquisitions
Article Abstract:
The trend towards globalization is encouraging many UK food and drink companies to consider merger or acquisition deals. Indeed, there have been a number of large deals in these sectors since Aug 1996. There was a 57 million pounds sterling management buy-out at Prize Food Group, for example, while Union Bank of Switzerland supported a 44 million pounds sterling buyout at Ross Vegetable Products. The most significant deal is the planned 9.8 billion pounds sterling merger of Grand Metropolitan with Guinness.
