Crime in Eastern European nations is increasing as budget cuts reduce the effectiveness of police officers and more politicians and government officials are accepting bribes to overlook illegal activities. Organized crime could have a dramatic effect on the burgeoning capitalist societies.

Hungary to learn: business in Eastern Europe
Article Abstract:
Local enterprise agencies in Hungary are working to attract foreign investment and to get much needed loans to help get new businesses started. Some of these are partially funded by the EC, which may not continue assistance despite their good results thus far.
