Further ACTDs will support precision strike
Article Abstract:
Raytheon Systems Company is expected to land a $95-million five-year contract from the US Army Topographic Engineering Center to support two additional advanced concept technology demonstrations (ACTD) for the Joint Precision Strike Demonstration Project Office. The contract, which may also call for other future related efforts, would require Raytheon to conduct fully integrated live/simulated demonstrations with geographically dispersed participants. The demonstrations would have to cover improved and emerging precision strike technologies, concepts and architectures that can acquire, integrate, sustain and transition ACTD 'leave-behind' products to field units, while working with warfighters and services' battle laboratories to develop the relevant tactics, techniques and procedures.

US Army ALERT to ATR possibilities
Article Abstract:
Northrop Grumman's Electronics Sensors and Systems Division (ESSD) is expected to be awarded by the US Army's Communications-Electronics Command with a 48-month contract to support the Air/Land Enhanced Reconnaissance and Targeting (ALERT) program. The contract aims to provide the sensors installed on aircraft and ground vehicles with a search-on-the-move (SOM) aided target recognizer (ATR) capability. The company will modify existing Comanche automatic target detection/classification (ATD/C) algorithms initially developed for the RAH-66 Comanche scout helicopter, and use a Second-Generation FLIR (forward-looking infrared set) for testing them on the output.
