Give me your tired, your confused
Article Abstract:
The US immigration system has a number of faults, and this is often blamed on the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). There is a large backlong of citizenship applications, and there are long delays for those seeking green cards to be able to work in the US. There are different categories of inhabitants, from full US citizens, to foreigners with no papers found at US borders. The different categories allow for employment discrimination amd for discrimination in the provision of health and education services. Illegal immigrants are treated relatively leniently onve they have crossed the border. The system itself is contradictory and reflects confusion about immigration.

The mixture as never before
Article Abstract:
The ethnic differences between US immigrants in 2000 can be compared with those of 1900, and parallels can be drawn with similarities between Asians and Jews, Latinos and Italians, Blacks and the Irish. There is a debate as to how far immigrants should be assimilated. This is linked to measures of whether they change their behavior to become more American and how well they perform in economic terms. Latinos can initially retain their language, but tend to lose it over the generations and also tend to change their attitudes on the position of women and other issues. Latinos tend to be poorer and les well educated, but this is changing.
