Can Singapore retain its specialness?
Article Abstract:
Singapore, one-time Venice of Asia, may not be able to retain its specialness and charm. The miracle Lee Kuan Yew wrought is in trouble, not only because neighboring economies have big problems, but also because of the change of attitude of the people in the last five years. Hotel, restaurant, airline and shop staffs, taxi drivers, and others who serve customers have an arrogance they once did not have, and that is not found in nearby countries that compete for tourists. They do not try to serve customers as they once did, having grown up in a genuinely synthetic environment.
