Five experts on Asia's equity markets analyze the likely developments for investments in this region in the 2nd qtr of 1993. In general they are less optimistic about Asia's markets, especially concerning further expansion by Hongkong's stock market. The panelists also agree that interest rates may impinge on high-priced equity markets not only in Asia but throughout the world. Recommended stocks include those of United Engineers Malaysia, Johnson Electric, Acme Landis and Siam Cement.

Allocating assets: three fund managers update their portfolios
Article Abstract:
Three Hongkong-based fund managers explain the investments they would recommend to two hypothetical investors, likewise based in Asia. The recommendations are revisions of earlier asset allocations given in Apr 1993. The first hypothetical investor has $100,000 available for investment and is willing to incur risks for rapid capital growth. The second investor has $500,000 to invest but favors less risky investments. The managers' choices for the two investors are presented.

Asian stockmarkets have grown in 1993 but it is still possible to find investment opportunities throughout the region. The Singapore and Malaysian markets are seen as the best possible investments for 1994, followed by the markets in Thailand and Indonesia. The Hongkong market is less certain and Japan is looking less profitable than it has in years past. Investment opportunities throughout Asia are discussed.
