Innovate, not imitate
Article Abstract:
Samsung Group, a South Korean electronics conglomerate, will undergo a managerial reorganization at the behest of Chmn Lee Kun Hee who believes that the cumbersome and hidebound organization has inhibited innovative ideas. Lee hopes that allowing lower managers to think for themselves will propel Samsung to 10th place among the world's conglomerates by 2000. However, Lee himself has been criticized for an excessively hands-off style that has permitted an inner group of senior managers to take effective control. This group shows little inclination to reform Samsung's hierarchical structure.

Price cutting is no bargain
Article Abstract:
The sorry state of South Korea's garments and textile industry can be attributed to the diminishing sales of its textiles on world markets. The industry has been forced to cut the prices of textiles on the local market. Garments from China and Southeast Asia are making inroads into South Korea's share of the US market. A growing number of textile firms are closing down their operations. However, many firms are confident that they will soon be able to get back their competitive edge in the world market.
