It looks like an early election
Article Abstract:
It appears that Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is considering holding an early election, possibly in Oct 1998 or Dec 1998. Observers believe that Mahathir feels that an early election, for which his opponents would be unprepared, would give him greater authority, especially in the light of the country's economic difficulties. It would also reduce the perceived threat to his leadership from Anwar Ibrahim, his deputy.
