Lighter Gloria trawls with Helix clamp

Article Abstract:

The fishing gear of the Iceland based HampidjanEs Gloria trawls comprising of Helix ropes and Helix clamp are discussed. The trawls are used on blue whiting and capelin. Gudmundur Gunnarsson of Hampidjan is of the opinion that clamp has made it possible to lighten the trawl from 14 or 16mm rope to 10mm.

Selstad A/S' trawls are being used off Alaska and in the Sea of Okhotsk, which is ice covered in the winter. The trawls can be worked in the ice and do not snag when coming up with a haul.
