Managed retreat
Article Abstract:
UnitedHealth Group will allow doctors to take medical decisions rather than bureaucrats, in a move that involve a retreat from some cost control strategies used by medical managed-care companies. There has been a backlash of opinion against managed care in the US which carries political weight. This could mean that managed-care companies will be less able to control health care costs, which are starting to rise after a period when they had been stable. This could make it more difficult to ensure that more Americnas obtain access to health care.

A test of uncertainty
Article Abstract:
Tests developed to assess a woman's risk of developing breast cancer based on her genetic makeup are not likely to be accurate. The test identifies the presence of mutant BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, but their mere presence does not mean women will get cancer. The knowledge will not necessarily do women good.
