More of a whimper
Article Abstract:
The year 2000 computer transition problem has been represented by the press as likely to lead to major disasters, such as the deaths of thousands of patients in hospital. The United Kingdom government is adding to concern about the problem by calling for action. Computer hardware and software companies are meanwhile peforming well. Meanwhile critics argue that the issue may have been represented as more serious than it actually is to persuade people to spend more. There are a number of ways of tackling the problem, and many programs can be altered at a gradual pace.

A shock to the system
Article Abstract:
Computers are still being sold in the United Kingdom that do not recognise the year 2000, and small businesses have been warned not to buy them. Some computers will recognise the year 2000 if they are turned off beforehand, but many business machines are left on all the time. Retailers of computer equipment may claim that their products are millennium-compliant when they are not. Small businesses can ask retailers to sign a statement accepting liability if a computer turns out not to be millennium-compliant.
