Museums and maintainability
Article Abstract:
Architects and engineers responsible for ensuring a high level of maintainability for museums have found that benefits can be derived from reviewing building projects before starting a new one. A review may involve seeking the views of museum users and an evaluation by the management team. An alternative approach is to test a new museum design by developing a sample space and using it for a year. It is important to be aware that the foundations of good maintenance practice are established at the outline design stage of the scheme.

Protect and survive
Article Abstract:
Protection of exhibited artefacts is essential if an artists is going to allow the public to see, learn from and understand his works. The venue location should take into account humidity, safety, accessibility for the public and storage facilities. Display stands should provide a safe environment for artefacts while ensuring the public is afforded adequate access. Lighting should not cause objects harm while being strong enough for people to view.
