Natsteel Electronics, Venture get a leg up amid sector ills
Article Abstract:
Natsteel Electronics and Venture Manufacturing, both contract manufacturers of Singapore, are gaining the advantage from the pricing pressures on original equipment manufacturers such as Compaq Computes and Dell Computer, according to an industry analyst based in Singapore. Component manufacturers are outsourcing more work to contract manufacturers in response to pricing pressures of multinationals resulting from declining demands and an oversupply of components. Pearly Yap, an analyst with SG Securities Asia, is recommending that investors purchase Natsteel Electronics shares if they fall. She also said Venture shares are attractive at their current prices.

Niche market buoys Avimo; stock is appealing despite transparency worries
Article Abstract:
The Singapore-listed Avimo Group has reported an increase in net profit which rose by 31% to hit Singapore $14.6 in the year ended Sep 30, 1998. The manufacturer of night-vision optical equipment's success may be attributed to the restructuring plan that Alvis, its majority shareholder, implemented in 1994. It decided that Avimo cannot afford to concentrate on its military contracts alone and should diversify its sources of revenue. Thus, a series of acquisitions ensued which included the purchase of Neeb-Optik group.
