New capitals of art
Article Abstract:
Taiwan and Hong Kong are emerging as important markets for Chinese and Western art. Several new art galleries have been established and major auction houses, such as Sotheby's and Christie's are active in the region. While contemporary Chinese art is in great demand, interest in Western art is also increasing. Over 50 European and American art galleries will be participating in the four-day Art Fair in Hong Kong in Nov 1992. Asian investors' lack of knowledge in foreign art may, however, prevent them from realizing the value of original Western art.

Classic toys
Article Abstract:
Prospects look good for Hong Kong's toy manufacturers as they underperformed the Hang Seng index by 45% and have potential price-earnings ratios of 5.2 and 5.1 for 1992-1994. Business in the US during the 1991 Christmas season was unexpectedly strong and cheaper raw materials, decreasing sales of Japanese video games and a baby boom in the US all contribute to a brighter future for the industry. Hong Kong is the world's biggest toy exporter and essential to its success is China as its base of production as well as the US as its largest customer.
