Article Abstract:
Andhra Pradesh has a wide range of mineral resources. These include, coal, limestone, bauxite, oil and natural gas, manganese, barytes, asbestos, iron Ore, mita, ball clay, granite, gold, diamond and graphite. The state also has small deposits of feldspar, copper, vermiculite, amethyst, kyanite, corundum, wolframite and green quartz. The mining sector of the state, which has posted a turnover of Rs600 crore in 1997-98 (Rs500 crore in 1996-97), hopes to achieve a turnover of Rs1,000 crore over the next two years. The Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) has posted a net profit of Rs14.75 crore on a turnover of Rs44 crore in 1997-98. (gs)

Vanavil Dyes and Chemicals has increased its sales by 25 percent to Rs1.32 crore in the third quarter of 1998-99 when compared to the third quarter of 1997-98. The company's net profit has increased by 68 percent to Rs4.26 crore on sales, net of excise duty, of Rs51.89 crore in the first nine months of 1998-99 compared to a net profit of Rs2.54 crore on sales of 46.26 crore in the first nine months of 1997-98.
