Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom government promised a freedom of information bill in its election manifesto. A draft bill revealed in May 1999 would give the UK a relatively feeble information law, exempting much of central government, while requiring greater openness at local level. This is a dilution of earlier, more radical proposals. Exemptions cover health and safety issues, issues related to policy formulation, and information that could damage international regulations.

Article Abstract:
The British parliament has been televised for some 10 years, and there has been a drop in audiences for parliamentary debates, which has led to les coverage by broadcasters. There are other sources of information on parliament such as Hansard online. Members of parliament also tend to use television interviews more than parliamentary speeches. This means that politicans cannot ask broadcasters to focus more on parliament until they do so themselves.
