RAJDHANI TO TAKE ON HLL, TATA CHEM IN IODISED SALT
Article Abstract:
The Rajdhani group sells branded wheat and pulses. It has launched its iodised salt in northern India. It has priced its product Rs6 per kg in direct competition with the Annapurna brand of Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL), Tata salt and Captain Cook. The iodised salt is sold under the brand name of Rajdhani. The salt will be sold through its 50 distributors and wholesalers. It plans to launch its iodised salt in southern India later. It is holding talks with multinationals like Ramsaier GmbH for a joint venture as it plans to give management control to the partner. It has set a sales target of Rs100 crore by 2000 AD. Now its turnover is Rs80 crore. (rk)

RATAN TATA SETS OFF TO KNIT HIS EMPIRE TOGETHER

The directors of Tata Sons (TS) and Tata Industries (TI), the holding company of the Tata group, and Mr Ratan Tata, chairman of the group, are chalking out plans for consolidating the group. The plans are being chalked out to review 10 leading companies of the Tata group. The Tata group will concentrate on the business plans of the respective companies for the short term (1 year) and medium term (3 years). The group is trying to instill the Tata values into the group companies and develop a new band identity. It is also re-analysing the projects and chalking out expansion and diversification plans. TATA LUCENT SETS UP WORKING SYSTEMS FOR BASIC SERVICES

Tata Lucent Technologies Ltd, a joint venture between Tata Industries Ltd and Lucent Technologies International Inc of the US, has established working systems for wireline and wireless basic telephony services in Andhra Pradesh. The company had won a $325 million contract in January 1999 to supply telecommunications equipment to Tata Teleservices Ltd over a period of three years. The contract included the supply of five ESS-DCS, SDH and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) base stations. (khr)
