RWE, VEW plan Euro19 billion merger; German deal would create top energy firm
Article Abstract:
RWE AG and VEW AG have agreed to a swap share merger that puts a preliminary value of approximately Euro19 billion on VEW. The merger would also boost RWE back to the top spot in a ranking of the top publicly traded power firms of Europe, said people familiar with the utilities' plans. The supervisory boards of the two companies will probably meet today to agree on the deal, which calls for RWE to offer one of its shares for every four of VEW's shares.
