Russian government looks for strategic investors
Article Abstract:
Russia remains committed to privatization, even though only seven companies appear on a preliminary list of those to be privatized in 1999. The only familiar names on the list are LUKoil, Gazprom, and Svyazinvest. Deputy Minister of State Property Sergey Molozhaviy said that the country has changed its privatization strategy. He noted that Russia sees privatization as a means to achieve structural economic reform, not as a way to plug budget holes.
