Sirf of U.S. to unveil two alliances

Sirf Technology Inc., a US maker of satellite communications chips, has launched strategic partnerships with two cellular-phone companies and raised a new round of financing. The company has teamed up with Nokia Corp., which invested $3 million in the company and Sweden's Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson, which has chosen to use Sirf's global positioning satellite technology for its cellular phones. According to the company's founder and vice president of marketing, Kanwar Chadha, the company has also raised $10 million in a second round of financing, bringing its total capital to $22.6 million.
