Societe Generale may opt to set aside additional provisions for Asian losses
Article Abstract:
Societe Generale may provide further allocations of up to $558.7 million for likely Asian losses in the second half of 1998, according to an official. The company appropriated 3.5 billion francs in Asia provisions in 1997 and a further 3.1 billion francs in the first half of 1998, according to the official. The official says the company does not envision a need to increase substantially any allocation for any country, aside from Thailand. On the positive front, he says Thailand and South Korea are two Asian countries that have made the right action to enable economic recovery in the long haul.
